What are the Adrenals?

Adrenal glands, also called suprarenal glands, are small triangular in shape located on the top of your kidneys. These adrenal glands produce steroid hormones, adrenaline, and noradrenaline, which help your body to regulate your metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure, immune system, response to stress and other essential body functions. Therefore, managing your stress levels is vital, as this directly affects the function of your adrenals and, subsequently, your body’s normal function.

The two extremes of adrenal function are:

Adrenal insufficiency (Addison disease) is a disorder in the body that doesn’t produce enough cortisol and/or aldosterone.

Excessive adrenal activity (Cushing syndrome) occurs when the body makes excessive cortisol over a long period and causes high blood pressure, bone loss and sometimes type 2 diabetes.

Patients with Addison’s disease are treated with adrenal hormone replacement, while Cushing’s disease is mainly treated with surgical interventions.

Some of the Signs and Symptoms of under/overactive adrenal activity

  • Fatigue – low energy and mood
  • Lethargy – constant tiredness
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Frequently urination
  • High blood pressure
  • Depression
  • Mood swings and irritability
  • High blood sugar
  • Muscle and bone weakness
  • Skin problems – acne or reddish-blue streaks on the abdomen or underarm
  • Upper body obesity – round face and neck
  • Thinning arms and legs

If any of the above symptoms and conditions sound familiar, you could be suffering from an adrenal imbalance, and this program is for you. We can help you by supporting and restoring the health of your adrenals for the long haul with lifelong tools.

Conventional treatment

Treatment for adrenal insufficiency dysfunction includes IV corticosteroids and IV salines, a salt solution with dextrose. Corticosteroids substitute the hormones cortisol and aldosterone that the body can’t produce. It is often given on tablets.

In Cushing’s syndrome, control of the excessive cortisol production from the adrenal gland can include metyrapone and mitotane. And in some cases, surgery and radiation may need to remove the tumour of the adrenals or pituitary glands.

How we can help you to regain your adrenal health

We will support you in getting back your health, managing your adrenals better, and uncovering the physiological, emotional and behavioural factors that may impact your adrenals.

We will address the root cause and support you as a whole individual and not just target each of your unique symptoms.

Stress-related conditions

What are Stress-related conditions?

Stress is the body’s response to anything that requires action or attention—this type of response causes psychological, emotional and physical strains. We experience stress to some degree when we don’t feel like we can manage it.

Stress is one of the most active components of most chronic diseases. For example, mental stress due to work, family and social matters in everyday life. Constant unresolved mental stress can lead to physical stress and present in the body as high blood pressure, clogged arteries, irregular glucose production, accumulation of toxins, and obstruction of metabolic pathways.

Nowadays and in the past, the stress response is similar, for example, when wild animals chased our ancestors. The brain signals the adrenals to produce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Then, the body shuts down the blood circulation to the digestion system and reproductive organs as these are no longer a priority. Finally, the main focus of the blood supply and circulation is the mind and muscles to fight, freeze or flee from dangerous situations.

Stress-related conditions that are not solved become chronic, and the stress response makes some patients lose their digestive enzymes and good-friendly bacteria; this leads to digestive issues, which are the hallmark of auto-immune diseases.

Some Signs and Symptoms

  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart conditions, hypertension
  • Obesity and diabetes
  • Shoulder, neck or back pain
  • Body aches and pains
  • Feeling tired

If you are experiencing any of the above, perhaps you are suffering from stress-related conditions.

Conventional Treatment

To manage stress, anxiety, and depression, tranquilisers drugs such as Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, beta-blockers, serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and others.

How we can help you with an integrative functional approach to recover from stress and adrenal burnout

The integrative approach can include increasing amounts of specific nutrients, such as vitamins and herbs, to support function and lifestyle and reduce stressors.

Together we address the root cause and design a personalised plan specific for you to recover from stress and adrenal fatigue. We focus on finding the underlying cause of our patient’s chronic conditions, such as stress. Then, we assess the severity and support the adrenal gland and the whole person until the issue is solved. Many patients with mental stress recover when they change their perceptions or responses.

Through medical history analysis and high-tech tests, we can find the underlying cause of the physical stress of our patients. The underlying causes can range from insulin resistance, known as impaired insulin sensitivity, the accumulation of toxins or a deficiency of essential vitamins and nutrients.
